Animal work overseas
One of the values of Wood Green is to set National standards in animal welfare. We have nearly 85 years’ of experience in the field of animal welfare and aim to share our knowledge with other charities and organisations around the world.
Tours of our Rehoming Centres
We regularly host tours of our facility in Cambridgeshire for overseas visitors. Recently we have attracted groups from the Japanese Pet Business School and under graduate vets from Denmark.
The Centres also welcome volunteers from around the world including animal welfare students from Taiwan, Finland and Sweden.
Rescue partners in Ireland
Wood Green supports our rescue partners in the Republic of Ireland, and in September 2010 we sent two experienced members of staff over to the Dog Action Welfare Group in Cork, to help train volunteers in handling and assessing dogs. The Charity also sent two members of staff to the Animal Care Society in Cork, to advise on cat behaviour and care.
We recently supported the Assissi Animal Sanctuary in Bangor, Northern Ireland, delivering community roadshows offering support and advice to rabbit owners.
Home and Abroad in Sri Lanka
Over the last five years’ Wood Green has sent experienced staff to Sri Lanka to support the charity Home and Abroad Animal Welfare. Staff members have been involved in outreach programmes offering treatment to badly injured animals and providing preventative treatment and neutering procedures. In December 2010, our Education Manager took the trip to Sri Lanka to help support the development of an education facility for the young people of Sri Lanka. This was very well received and we hope to continue this kind of support in the future.
International conferences
Members of staff from Wood Green are always in high demand to deliver topical talks about animal welfare, behaviour and charity procedures. Most recently we delivered talks at the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) Annual Conference, International Companion Animal Welfare Conference (ICAWC) in Budapest, Companion Animal Behaviour and Training Study Group (CABTSG) and many more. Topics have included children and dogs, enrichment and managing molosser breeds in a rescue environment.
