The Foster Circle

Here at Wood Green we have a group of extra special volunteers who form The Foster Circle - coordinated and resourced by the Charity. These very special people offer temporary foster homes - mainly for families escaping Domestic Violence or for individuals having to enter hospital for short stays who have no support to assist with caring for their dogs/cats in their absence. Their ability to foster dogs/cats is dependent upon the sociability of pets requiring fostering with children/other dogs/cats or other pets in the foster homes and the fosterers' availability at the time the fostering is required.
Any pet that requires fostering must be house-trained/good to walk/have no history of inappropriate behaviour. A simple initial form with details/temperament/history and routine forms the basic application. If you meet the criteria and a foster home is offered, an examination by our own Vets on day of entry at the centre is required and for dogs a behavioural assessment is carried out. It is a requirement of the fostering scheme that owners/their representatives bring their animals to the centre at an appointed time - we are unable to collect animals.
Wood Green, The Animals Charity currently offers assistance across the following counties; Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Suffolk and Warwickshire, for periods of up to six months for Domestic Violence cases or up to two months where dog/cat owners need to be hospitalised.

We are always in need of foster carers to help us extend our circle – applicants need to live within a maximum radius of 30 miles (approx half an hour travel time) in order that our transport and other resources are not stretched too far. Good access to our own vets is a requirement in the event of an emergency. Please find out more by submitting an online enquiry form or contacting us on 0844 248 8181.
