Feeding your ferrets
Ferrets are carnivores: they need meat in their diet and they will not thrive without it.
Ferrets can get very thirsty, especially in hot weather. Bowls of fresh drinking water should always be available.
A good quality complete dry ferret food will provide your ferrets with all the nutrients that they need but you can also offer them a variety of treats such as raw eggs, tinned kitten food, boiled chicken off the bone and Lactol (a lactose-free fortified milk supplement, available from supermarkets and pet shops).
They also like Ferret Vit, a tasty vitamin supplement. You can use Ferret Vit as a reward when you’re training your ferrets and you can use it to distract and relax them when they are having their nails clipped.
Ceramic cat feeding bowls are ideal containers for their dry food, you can also try scattering treats around their living accommodation and putting some of their food in Kongs and activity balls.
