Urgent stock appeal!

Margaret_and_marie_article_detail

Wood Green has launched an urgent stock appeal in a bid to help fill the shelves at two of its charity shops.

Donations of clothes, books and household items at Wood Green’s charity shop in High Street, Sand and White Hart Court, St Ives, are drying up leaving the shelves and rails looking almost empty.

Margaret and MarieManager of the Sandy shop, Vanessa Dumpleton believes the fall in donations could be down to the increasing number of house-to-house collections that are taking place across the county on a daily basis.

She said: “We normally have a steady supply of donations coming through our shop door but in recent weeks stock has been drying up.

“The shop continues to be extremely popular with members of the public and our supporters, but we don’t have enough stock coming in to be able to keep our shelves full and our customers coming back.

“We desperately need members of the public to donate their unwanted items so we can fill our shelves.

“We are in need of clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories and household items. If you are able to donate any items, please drop them at one of our shops. Your donated items could be worth more than you think.”

To find out what items we can accept and our opening times visit the charity shop pages of our website.

I rarely have household items or clothes to give away as like many others I cannot afford to replace items with any life left in them.Have you considered selling cards, stationery and home made craft items such as jewellery. There are thousands of crafters in the country and the majority of them would be willing to donate items. As a group crafters are exceedingly generous.I am sure there must be some local craft goups you could appeal to,perhaps by putting flyers in local shops. Good Luck

I think the problem is that there are already 6 (that I can think of) other charity shops in St Ives, which is quite a lot for such a small town. Yours is a bit out of the way and people don't always walk that far unless they are going to the library or Waitrose. I think you need a higher profile publicity campaign to let people know you are there.

I'm a great supporter of Woodgreen and work just around the corner from your shop, but didn't even know it was there until a work collegue told me.

Perhaps put a great big board outside the shop - picture of a dog maybe????

Good luck and I'll most definitely bring my unwanted goods to you.
