Three-legged stray cat seeking forever home

Purrkins_article_detail

Wood Green, The Animals Charity is seeking a loving home for a three-legged cat which was abandoned by his owners.

The ginger and white cat who has been named Puurkins by staff because he is a real purrer, was brought to the Godmanchester Centre on June 14 after he was found straying in Great Northern Street, Huntingdon.

72579 Purrkins xrayPuurkins’ had been hit by a car, his back left leg was broken, tendons were exposed and he was in severe pain. Veterinary nurses made the decision to amputate the leg and Purrkins underwent an operation.

The three-year-old cat is now well on the way to recovery but is looking for a new family where he can set up home.

Head of Veterinary Services Vanessa Cunningham said: “Purrkins is one of three cats we have taken in recently and had to amputate a leg because it has either been neglected or has been hit by a car. All three of the cats were un-neutered and it is possible they have wondered off searching for a female.

“This story and that of the other two cats, Nemesis and Jake, stresses the importance of neutering and microchipping.”

For further information about Purrkins or to rehome him call 0844 248 8181.

We would love to give this cat and either of the other three legged cats a forever home, but I don't think our cat would take to a male cat, as she doesn't like the male cats that belong to our neighbours. I hope they find a suitable home soon.

Our downstairs neighbour has a three legged cat that I affectionately call Tripod. She is a tuxedo cat with a white nose stripe and a black line around her mouth. When she was a stray before adopting our neighbours, the local children called her Lipstick and so that's what she answers to. She lived upstairs with us for three weeks after her op because her owners were not around all day and she still pops up from time-to-time for a visit. I used to have a beanie cushion but needless to say it is now hers! She is 11 years old and lost her leg at age 8 due to a tumour. She limps around like an old lady but when she get the wind up her tail she tears in through the cat flap, up the stairs, back down and out the cat flap. She does this a couple of times and then flops down to recuperate. I hope people will not be put off adopting a three legged animal - they lose a limb but retain their personality.
