Every year, you help thousands of animals like Hafren make incredible journeys

Emaciated and terrified: when poor Hafren was found by the side of a busy road, he was about as far from a forever home as you could ever imagine. Over 5,000 homeless and unwanted pets find themselves at Wood Green, The Animals Charity every year.

Hafren, who you can read about below, is one of our ‘long-stayers’: the 12% of animals who take a little longer to rehome. The sick and injured who face months of recovery. The old and shy who get overlooked. The unlucky who are simply an unpopular colour or breed. These forgotten animals face the longest journey to find a home. And it’s only with your support that we can be there every step of the way.

Hafren: from roadside to forever home in 93 days

Hafren 2

Emaciated and terrified: when poor Hafren was found by the side of a busy road, he was about as far from a forever home as you could ever imagine. If you’d seen Hafren when he first arrived at our Godmanchester Centre, it would have broken your heart. He was just skin and bone, weighing only 13kg, and so weak he could barely stand. Yet, day after day, supporters like you helped us stay at Hafren’s side: you enabled us to treat his alopecia so his beautiful coat could grow again, feed him hearty meals to build up his strength, take him for regular energising walks, and give him all the care, time and attention he needed to start trusting people. Finally, after 93 days, Hafren was a different dog: healthy, full of life and ready to go to his new loving home.

Clooney: 305 days  to find his forever home

Woody 11339 2 croppedAfter his owners had a baby, there was no room for nine year old Clooney anymore. Normally, we’d expect to rehome a handsome cat like him in less than 30 days, but one month turned into two, and then three… 305 days later this handsome gentleman went to his forever home. And, with ongoing health conditions requiring veterinary treatment every week, Clooney has found a new owner able to give him all the love and long-term care he needs to thrive.

Oink: from fearful to friendly in 143 days

caramel and oinkOink, a guinea pig, came from a large multi-pet household. She’d had limited human contact and was very under-socialised and, as a result, would kick and bite in panic when we needed to examine her. Your support gave us the time to find a way to calm Oink’s fears. We found
her Caramel, a special friend she could trust. Now, Oink’s anxiety has just melted away. After 143 days, Oink has found the perfect home together with Caramel. Oink even loves the attention she gets from her new family!
