Why do we use this method of fundraising?
Wood Green doesn’t receive any government or lottery funding, therefore we rely on the support of donations. Face-to-face fundraising means that we can inform potential supporters of our work and the needs of the Charity.
By receiving regular gifts via Direct Debit, we are able to continue caring for the animals looking for new homes and plan ahead for the future. Direct Debit is also a cost-effective way to donate as it allows us to keep our administrative costs to a minimum.
Who are the fundraisers?
Our fundraisers are recruited by professional fundraising agencies and all fundraisers are fully trained representatives of Wood Green, with the majority of their pay based upon a flat basic hourly rate. They are a highly motivated and hard-working group of individuals who are on the front line of face-to-face recruitment for Wood Green, acquiring long-term supporters on our behalf. The fundraisers are vetted for their integrity with regards to their campaigning ethics and are trained on the importance of handling confidential information.
What do the fundraisers look like?
They are typically aged between 19 and 35. Not only do they display their valid photo identification at all times but they are easily identifiable by the Wood Green branded clothing they wear.
What will they ask for?
The fundraisers will only ask for regular gifts via Direct Debit and are not authorised to accept any other means of payments in the way of a donation (i.e. cash, cheque etc.).
How can you tell they are genuine?
They will be carrying a folder containing Wood Green branded literature and Direct Debit mandate forms.
Is this type of fundraising regulated?
The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) is a self-regulating body that is dedicated to ensure high standards of quality, transparency and integrity. They regulate face-to-face fundraising activities used by charities and professional fundraising organisations and enforce a Code Of Practice, which aims to make certain that peoples’ experience of door-to-door fundraising is positive. It uses an accreditation scheme, mystery shoppers and feedback from stakeholders and members of the public, to monitor that their members are in compliance.
Wood Green closely monitors its campaigns to ensure that the representatives adhere to the regulations and Codes Of Practice set out by the Institute of Fundraising and Public Fundraising.
