Moggy Midwives
Wood Green currently has a large number of pregnant cats at its shelters, and is looking for people to help care for them by becoming “Moggy Midwives”.
You don’t need to have experience looking after pregnant cats or kittens; all we ask is that you can provide a safe environment (ideally a spare room) in which the cat can give birth and raise her family. You’ll need to be fairly confident around animals, as you’ll need to give flea and worming treatments and do basic health checks on both Mum and her kittens, and once the kittens are old enough start weaning them away from their mother.
It doesn’t matter if you live in a busy or quiet household, have children or other pets, or live alone – as long as you’re willing to socialise the kittens and give them and their Mum plenty of love and attention! We’d prefer someone to be at home for most of the time, but if you work and can arrange someone to pop in on a regular basis then that’s fine.
Wood Green Animal Shelters will provide you with everything you need – food, litter trays, bedding, medicine, as well as round-the-clock advice and support – and in return you’ll get the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve really made a difference to an animal in need. By the time they’re six weeks old your kittens will be well socialised and used to the sights and sounds of a home environment, which makes it easier for us to find them loving new homes.
