Why do we use this as a method of fundraising?
Wood Green Animal Shelters has now been carrying out street & door-to-door reruitment
for new regular gift supporters for a few years. It has proved to be a very successful way to spread the word about our work to people who may not realise that we receive no Government funding.
By receiving regular gifts via direct debit, we are able to continue caring for the animals looking for new homes and plan ahead for the future. Direct debit is also a cost-effective way to donate as it allows us to keep our administrative costs to a minimum.
Who are the fundraisers?
Our fundraisers are recruited by a professional fundraising company called Together Fundraising.
All of the fundraisers are fully trained, representatives of Wood Green Animal Shelters and are paid according to the number of long-term supporters they aquire on our behalf.
They are a highly motivated and hard-working group of individuals who are on the frontline of face-to-face donor recruitment for Wood Green.
The fundraisers are vetted for their integrity with regards to their campaigning ethics and are trained to on the importance of handled confidential information. Furthermore, each fundraiser has their background checked to ensure they have no criminal record.
What do the Fundraisers look like?
They are typically aged between 19 and 35. Not only do they display their valid photo identification at all times but they are easily identifiable by the Wood Green branded clothing they wear. They will also be carrying a folder containing Wood Green literature and direct debit mandate forms.
What will they ask for?
The fundraisers will only ask for regular gifts via direct debit and are not authorised to accept any other means of payments in the way of a donation (i.e. cash, cheque etc.).
How can you tell they are genuine?
All fundraisers will be wearing a uniform clearly branded with the Wood Green Animal Shelters logo and will display a photo’ ID. They will also be carrying up to date branded literature.
Is this type of fundraising regulated?
The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) is a self-regulating body that is dedicated to ensure high standards of quality, transparency and integrity.
They regulate fundraising activities used by charities and professional fundraising organisations and enforce a Code Of Practice, which aims to make certain that peoples’ experience of this type of fundraising is positive.
It uses an accreditation scheme, mystery shoppers and feedback from stakeholders and members of the public, to monitor that their members are in compliance.
Wood Green closely monitors its campaigns to ensure that the representatives adhere to the regulations and Codes Of Practice set out by the Institute of Fundraising and Public Fundraising Regulatory Association.
Wood Green Animal Shelters is a member of the PRFA.
