Home Visiting

Wood Green Animal Shelters offer our animals and their new keepers a home visiting service.

What is the visit for?

Part of our rehoming process is a home visit; the purpose of the visit is to assist the rehomer’s at the Shelter in matching the right dog with your family. The visit is your opportunity to ask any questions about the dog you are rehoming or have rehomed. The visitors will be able to offer advice on how best to settle him or her in, puppy training and development; they will also be able to answer general health, feeding and training questions. Where appropriate the visitor will ask to see the garden and may be able to offer some advice on fencing

Who decides if we can rehome him/her?

The visitor will make an assessment and this will form part of the decision making process for their colleagues at the Shelter on how to proceed with the rehoming.  The visitor will therefore not be in a position to give the result at the time of the visit but you will be asked to contact the Shelter the following day.

Who needs to attend?

Where possible the advice the visitor will give will need to be followed by all the family so they should all be in attendance at the time of the visit. However where this is not possible then the adult who intends to be the primary carer for the dog must be present during the visit.

When will my visit be done?

Home visits are carried out during the day between 8.30am and 3.30pm

Zoned visits: when you reserve the dog the rehomer will inform you when the visitor is coming to your area. You will need to be available all day, however if you telephone the Shelter on the morning of the visit after 8.30am the admin team will be able to advise you whether the visit will be am or pm.

Non zoned visits: one of the visiting team will telephone you to make an appointment, you will need to be flexible as he or she will need to group all the visits in your area together.
