Now you've helped Dodger on his way to a happy life, why not join him in raising money for all his friends at Wood Green by taking part in our New Year Dog Walk on 2nd January 2006 at Wimpole Hall Estate, near Royston.  For further information contact Linda Arnold at linda.arnold@woodgreen.org.uk or call 08701 90 40 90.

At 5pm on Monday 17th October an 18 month old terrier was brought into Wood Green's Godmanchester shelter after being involved in a road traffic accident; leaving him with numerous injuries.  Dodger as he has been named by Wood Green staff suffered a double fracture to his back leg, a dislocated hip and a fractured pelvis.

Hundreds of people responded to an urgent appeal launched by the animal welfare charity to save Dodger.  Dodger required urgent surgery for the horrific injuries suffered in the accident.

Amongst them was Peterborough/Cambridgeshire based poetry publishing company Forward Press who have donated the full £3,000 cost of the surgery Dodger needs after hearing about his tragic story in the local media yesterday evening.

After a significant initial response to the appeal, Dodger was able to have his life saving operation and staff are confident his chances are very good. Thanks to the company's donation his treatment and aftercare needs have been met.

Nigel Mason, Head of Animal Welfare at Wood Green Animal Shelters, said: "Forward Press's donation will be a life-saver for Dodger who we have cared for since he was brought into us."

Ian Walton said: "When we heard about Dodger we knew we should help. Everyone at Forward Press is an animal lover so it was heartbreaking hearing about his terrible injuries.  We are delighted that our donation will pay for the surgery he urgently needs."

The appeal for Dodger led to hundreds of members of the public contacting Wood Green and several companies raising money for him through collection buckets.

These donations will be set aside in a new Dodger Appeal fund and are essential to pay for his post operative care, which is estimated to run into thousands of pounds, and for urgent medical care for other animals in Wood Green's care.
